Brief About Isua

ISUA - AKOKO THE PLACE OF ANCIENT LANDMARK

ISUA-AKOKO is the capital of Akoko South East Local Government Area, Ondo State Nigeria.
Defining the location of this town foremost is to know its continent. Isua Akoko is located in Africa, and West Africa to be specific. It’s situated in Nigeria, at the western region of the country. The Region consists of seven states, of which Ondo State is one. Ondo State consists of three Geo-political zones, namely; Ondo North, Ondo Central and Ondo South Senatorial Districts. Each Senatorial district comprises of six local governments. Under The Ondo North Senatorial District, we have a sub-region called the Akoko Land. Akoko bares four large local governments, and the other two are Owo and Ose Local Governments.

AKOKO LAND

Akoko land is a Region in Ondo state, which has numerous town and villages under it. Every town or village in this region has a unique suffix after its name “‘AKOKO’” e.g. Isua Akoko, Oka Akoko, Akungba Akoko, Ikare Akoko, etc. The most unique thing about Akoko Land is diversity in Languages/dialect. The number of different languages/dialect in Akoko Land is not specifically known, because every town/village/clan has its own different language (permit me to use the word ‘Language’). Various ethnical groups live in the land and found a home out of it, because of its beautiful smile at visitors. Isua found its bearing at the South Eastern part of the land, Oka at South West, Ikare at North East and Okeagbe at North West. These four towns are the Headquarters of the four Local Governments in Akoko Land. Akungba Akoko is popular for Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (A.A.U.A), a state owned university.
ISUA AKOKO The Akoko South East Local Government Area; A.S.E.L.G, has its head council in Isua Akoko. The local government consists of six towns, surrounding Isua at the centre. Isua is a rocky settlement. It has various forms of geographical distribution e.g. it’s a plateau, a plain, valley, rainforest, savannah, etc. All because the imaginary transition line of vegetion from Tropical Rainforest belt and the onset of Guinea Savannah belt cuts through the heart of Isua. We have some part being the tropical forest, and places around Ose river and Egbiroro being Savannah.
It falls at the boundary of Ondo State and Edo State. The great Ose River flows through its extreme corner, having a magnificent bridge at Eti-Ose, which is the boundary with Edo State. The Eti-Ose area of Isua-Akoko is a tropical guinea savannah where the dominant activity is grazing of animals, planting of cereal crops and cassava. The place is majorly occupied by Fulani herdsmen and Ebira people.
The weather and climatic condition of the town is at optimum. This was due to the fact of its location and geographical distribution, and its attributes include; breezy, cool, hammattan, rainy, sunny, etc. A wise man once said and I quote “Isua-Akoko is indeed the Jos of Nigeria with the weather condition and atmosphere out here. None of my friends who came all the way to partake in the funeral could afford to use the air conditioning system in their hotel rooms or in their cars”. He went further to explain what he meant by such exclamation making reference to the encyclopedia meaning of a plateau and its corresponding atmosphere and weather (Engr. Charles Okaga 2011).

  11. I will suggest that a platform where the language can be learnt should be created to assimilate those (we) that are tapped by language into the society anywhere we are.

  12. Wow! Beautiful, I have been researching on the origin of Isua, after finding a town called Isua across the Niger in Rivers State. Similar story but with little clue about the specific community they migrated from in Benin Empire. They form part of Engenne kingdom which has about six different core towns. The comprehensive history of what led to d migration that took place in Benin empire centuries should written and be told. So that we can have it in blue prints to preserve the narratives.
